#1 Bestseller in Walking!
Don't miss Book 2, The Wildwater Walking Club Back on Track!

"The Wildwater Walking Club is a quick smart read that will get you thinking about walking, friendship, and making time for the things you love." - Bookreporter.com
By the New York Times bestselling author of Must Love Dogs, a fun and inspiring novel about women and friendship - and how even big changes happen one step at a time.

After losing her boyfriend and her job in one fell swoop, Noreen has no idea what her next step is. So she puts on a new pair of sneakers and a seriously outdated pair of exercise pants, and walks. Before long she's joined by two neighbors as lost as she is and figures out time flies and fitness is actually fun when you're walking with friends. Throw in a road trip to Seattle for a lavender festival, a career-coaching group that looks like a bad sequel to The Breakfast Club, some terrific romantic comedy twists and turns, a quirky multigenerational cast of supporting characters, and the result is a tribute to female friendship that will inspire you to pick up the phone and call all your old friends--or maybe even start your own walking group.

Join Noreen, Tess and Rosie as they walk and talk, talk and walk, tally their steps, share their secrets, and begin putting their lives back together. You'll be lacing up your own sneakers in no time.

"Lively and inspiring!" - Hartford Courant

"A great feel-good story." - Philadelphia Examiner

"Readers who enjoy a celebration of friendship will want to walk the beach alongside the Wildwater trio." -Midwest Book Review

"The Wildwater Walking Club reminds us of what's important in life - the joy of friendship, the power of a brisk walk, and of course the importance of a good book. I couldn't put it down. -Anisha Lakhani

"The woman of The Wildwater Walking Club are a delightful trio, full of heart and determination. As they - literally - put one foot in front of the other, the three new friends find unlikely paths that point them toward more fulfilling lives. Their journey left me genuinely inspired (and with the curious urge to go out and buy a clothesline)." -Jean Reynolds Page

Book Review:
The Wildwater Walking Club
By Claire Cook

In classic Claire Cook style, she has done it again. The reader can’t help but feel inspired after reading The Wildwater Walking Club. In her tell-tale style, Claire Cook has created a cast of characters that the reader will want to befriend. The theme of reinventing oneself at any age added to the importance of true friendship makes this story easy to step into and follow along the path of the characters.

Noreen “Nora” is an executive at a shoe corporation; her department specializes in branding and marketing. When the corporation is bought out by another, the incoming team vies with current employees for the positions available. Nora is seduced by a man who really wants her position and convinces her to take a buyout.

Nora suddenly has 18 months of pay with no job prospects and a ton of time on her hands. She takes a pair of the shoes she worked tirelessly to promote and puts them on. Wanting to get out to do something she starts walking and her neighbor, Tess Tabares, joins her on daily walking excursions. They share their troubles and offer solutions to each other, and then another neighbor, Rosemary "Rosie" Stockton joins in as well.

The story follows a trio of friendship that analyzes what is really important in their lives. They have an adventure across the country at a lavender festival that brings inspiration, relaxation and solutions to the problems awaiting them back home.

This is a great story of women uplifting each other amidst troubles that can make any disposition sour. After reading it, any woman would want to start a walking club to share in the joy that Nora achieves through her walking group.

At the end of the novel, Claire Cook has placed a Walking Group Guide to inspire others to “start a walking revolution-one step at a time!”

She also lists a Book Club Questions guide to spark the discussion of this wonderful story.

The Wildwater Walking Club Book 1 of The Wildwater Walking Club series eBook Claire Cook Reviews

The story was pretty boring nothing in the story left you with any great expectation and while I was reading I was making up my own ending which I must say was more interesting then what was written. Sorry if I spoiled the book for you just couldn't get excited about the story or where it took me.
This is a great book about one woman finding herself in the midst of a lot of change and creating a better life for herself in the process, and what happens when you take the journey with girlfriends. The characters are likeable and funny. The story is good. I am about to start the sequel to see what happens next. This book will inspire you to take a look at your own life and see what you could have instead.
While at first glimpse of this fun summary cover and the synopsis above you are probably thinking chick lit.... light and summery, a fun and easy read. AND - you would not totally be mistaken. However, as I flipped through the pages of this smooth book, I found a deeper message that as I closed the final page, actually caused me pause.

While Claire has once again brought together a read of wonderful women friendships, she also sneaks in a message about self-worth - and not finding your worth through a job, or through someone else s eyes - but through creating you... to be who you know you can be.

Laugh if you will," Brick said. "But your ability to tell the world who you are is the first step in figuring out what you want your life to be."

page 64 The Wildwater Walking Club

And while the message at the time I read it didn't stick and hold, it did later as I read on and watched how Noreen, as well as her friends grew through the strength of each other.

Another enjoyable read by Claire Cook. My second of hers this summer and there is another one sitting in the Library Sale box that I may just have to pull out yet.
Very fun story of a woman's transition from the corporate world to a stay-at-home existence where she has time to now have a life at mid-age. Cook has a way with humor that is something you can count on and I always enjoy her books. I laughed out loud several times reading this book. The main character is likable, the conflict is well written and the lavender is a lovely addition to the club's evolution.
Most enjoyable.
This book was a fun read. The main character is a single woman in her forties who takes a buyout at her job and gets ditched by her boyfriend who talked her into the buyout. While trying to figure out what she want to do with her life, she starts a walking club with two neighbor ladies. They walk everyday and try to help one another with life's challenges. The book is filled with humor.
I loved the "MUST LOVE DOGS" series but the Wildwalking Walking Club is more about introspective, self appreciation. I found the idea that Noreen could be lost in her thoughts to be difficult to follow and not too interesting. That neighbors could form deep friendship from walking together in the neighborhood is a great concept. If you need a reason to get out and meet your neighbors, maybe you'd like to start walking.
It had a great start. She's humiliated herself over some guy and trying to find out what she wants to do with her life now. It's nice seeing a story where when everything falls apart, she doesn't go running home to her old home town, find her high school lover, etc. While I don't think there's a prayer in hell of her getting anywhere in the long term with what she decides, I like that there is a process she's trying to go through. I also like the premise that having one or two things in common can really be enough to have a friendship. So if I liked it that much, why only 3.5 stars? because the author must have gotten bored with it at the end. It's got that flavor of "dear god, make this be over, how can I tie this up in 1.3 pages". And I hate that. I think she could have tied it better together.
